Min Ji-suk runs a "ticket bar" in Sokcho, Gangwon-do, where customers can purchase tickets for various services. She hires Miss Yang, Miss Hong, and Se-young through an employment agency. Miss Yang and Miss Hong are experienced in the business and accept propositions from customers, but Se-young, who is dating a college student named Min-su, refuses all requests for sexual favors. When Min-su faces financial difficulties, Se-young reassures him she will secure the necessary funds for him. However, as the bar's clientele begins to dwindle due to Se-young's refusal to comply with customer requests, Ji-suk reprimands her severely. Se-young develops a close relationship with Captain Pak and allows him to sleep with her. She asks Captain Pak to find Min-su employment on a boat, but when Min-su arrives in Sokcho for his new job, he discovers how Se-young is making her living and is shocked, turning down the job and leaving. When Min-su eventually returns to Sokcho, he harshly criticizes Se-young's morality and ends their relationship. Ji-suk, who decades ago entered the bar business out of desperation to support her husband while he was in prison and later left him voluntarily due to shame and moral degradation, is concerned that Se-young will end up in the same situation. She begs Min-su to meet with her and asks him not to abandon Se-young, but he refuses. In a fit of anger, Ji-suk pushes Min-su into the sea, leading her to suffer a mental breakdown and be admitted to a psychiatric institution.
