Based on the 13th Century Borneo sacrificial rituals, “Curse of the Totem” tells the story of Dr. Sani, an academic who ventures into the dense jungles of Borneo in search of his missing wife, who vanished during a genealogy expedition to study the ancient mythical legend of Jerunei 'Burial Poles' of the indigenous Melanau tribe. These burial poles, still existing today as gravestones, symbolize the loss of human lives sacrificed to ensure the prosperity of the noble elite. Despite the 18th Century outlawing of human sacrifice in Sarawak Province, the dark rituals continue in secret. As Dr. Sani and his team navigate the treacherous Borneo jungle, they encounter inexplicable hallucinations, malicious disturbances, and haunting spirits of the dead. The situation deteriorates when one team member is completely possessed by evil forces, forcing Dr. Sani to confront not only the physical dangers but also the spiritual curses tied to the ancient rituals.
