Synopsis故事梗概

《万里归省》影评:

The film, based on a true story, follows J. P. Singh (John Abraham), an Indian diplomat stationed at the Indian High Commission in Pakistan, whose life is upended by the arrival of Uzma Ahmed (Sadia Khateeb) on 5 May 2017.

The narrative begins in KPK, where Uzma arrives at the Indian Embassy accompanied by Tahir and his brother Basheer (Bhawani Muzamil). Seizing a moment when the men step outside to smoke, Uzma pleads with the embassy staff for help, claiming she is in danger. Uzma is allowed to step inside the secured doors of the embassy building.

Uzma, a distressed woman seeking refuge, claims to be an Indian citizen abducted to Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and forced into marriage with Tahir (Jagjeet Sandhu), a Pakistani man of Pathan origin. She reveals a harrowing tale of abuse, including physical and sexual assault, at Tahir's hands.

Uzma, a mother to a daughter Noor with Thalassemia from a previous marriage, had initially believed Tahir's intentions were genuine, meeting him in Malaysia when Uzma was there looking for a job. Tahir was a taxi driver who returned Uzma's phone and bag to her after she forgot it in the taxi. They both fell in love. Tahir tells Uzma that KPK has an excellent treatment facility for Thalassemia and encourages her to come to Pakistan.

Her entry into Pakistan without police reporting or an immigration record, orchestrated by Tahir, raises suspicions about her story. Singh says that Uzma's visa was issued by Pakistan on an Indian passport for her to visit her family living in Pakistan, which apparently was a lie as taught to her by Tahir to get the visa. Singh argues that it is impossible to go to a different city from the visa, and yet Uzma reached a different province without any issues. Buner is a small village isolated from everything else and once there Uzma was trapped. Uzma finds that Tahir was already married and even had kids. Uzma tried to scream but there was nobody to hear her pleas. Tahir completely changed in Buner and started beating Uzma and sexually assaulted her.

Human Traffickers arrive to buy Uzma but luckily leave her alone as she was already 28 and too old for their purposes. Tahir then forces Uzma into a marriage with him. Uzma tells Tahir in her home, a daughter is given Rs 10 Lakhs in cash upon marriage. She suggests meeting her cousin brother at the Indian Embassy to send word to her family about her marriage, so they can help arrange and deliver the cash. This is how Uzma was able to get to the Indian Embassy in Islamabad and begged for shelter.

Singh, initially skeptical and suspecting Uzma might be a spy or a terrorist, interrogates her to ascertain the truth. As Uzma recounts her ordeal, Singh grapples with the moral and ethical dilemmas of her case.

Singh's efforts to secure Uzma's safety lead him to engage with Pakistani authorities, including Faraz (Darius Chinoy), the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, and Malik (Ashwath Bhatt), the Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). They are headed by the Foreign Affairs Minister of Pakistan (Benjamin Gilani).

The Pakistani officials are convinced Uzma is an Indian spy, alleging she traveled to KPK to establish contact with insurgents and now seeks safe passage back to India. This accusation complicates Singh's mission, as he navigates the Pakistani legal systems, international diplomatic tensions, and pressure from both Indian and Pakistani governments. Sushma Swaraj (Revathy), Union Minister of External Affairs of India asks JP Singh to tread cautiously as the matter could quickly escalate beyond control.

JP Singh is married to Naina (Shriswara) and has a son. Naina complains that due to his work, Singh ignores his family frequently. Meanwhile Tahir convinces the tribal that Uzma has betrayed him and that the community has to stand behind him in an effort to bring Uzma back.

The next morning the ISI links up with Tahir and leaks news to the media that India is keeping Uzma away from Tahit because Tahir is a Pakistan citizen. Now Uzma has to appear in front of a Magistrate to give her statement, but she refuses saying that she cannot face Tahir again. Singh calls N. M. Syed (Kumud Mishra) a senior diplomat advocate in Pakistan for help. Singh asks Tiwari (Sharib Hashmi) Indian Foreign Service official in Pakistan to keep an eye on the local police activities in Islamabad.

Singh lures Tahir and Basheer into the embassy for a discussion and then sends Uzma out with Syed for her statement to the Magistrate. After her statement, Uzma also gives a statement to the media that helps the Indian Embassy to defend their position in keeping Uzma safe on their premises.

But then Tahir goes to court and files a domestic dispute case. As such the court orders the Indian High Commission to produce Uzma in court at the next hearing.

9 years ago JP Singh was posted in the Indian Embassy in Kabul. The embassy became the target for a suicide bomber and many innocent people lost their lives including a little girl whom Singh had noticed earlier. Singh asks Uzma to face her fears and appear in court. If she refuses, she may not be able to return home.

Singh warns Faraz that an innocent girl should not be killed on Pakistani soil. This threat works and an order is relayed to Malik, who had organized Tahir and Basheer to stop Singh's convoy transporting Uzma to court. Syed cannot stop the court from ordering Uzma's statement to be taken in public hearing, which means that Uzma would have to face Tahir.

Uzma gathers the courage to face Tahir in court and tells the judge that she was lied to and she was tortured and hence there is nothing to talk about and she only wants to go home. Tahir tries to intimidate Uzma, but the court grants her freedom and security till Wagah Border for her immediate repatriation to India.

Islamabad to Wagah is 5 hours and Singh knows that they can be attacked at any time. Malik works with Tahir and Basheer to ensure that Uzma is not able to reach the border. Malik organizes an attack on the convoy, but Singh gets a sense of it and contact Sushma Swaraj. The message is relayed to Malik that death of Uzma would have repercussions. Malik tries to pull back Tahir and Basheer, but now they want revenge and refuse to call off the attack.

The convoy is intercepted, but Singh drives away with Uzma. Tahir and Basheer follow, but end up seriously injured when Singh rams his car sideways into them and it turns turtle. The convoy reaches Wagah where Malik tries to delay Uzma's release to India, but again the pressure from his seniors forces his hand. Uzma is escorted to the border and released to the Indian side of Wagah. JP Singh returns to his post in Islamabad.
